One of the richest Italian regions thanks to the developed industry and rice growing, is home for important Italian companies such as Fiat. The region is quite full of mountains, as you can see in its name (ai piede dei monti – translated as at the foot of the mountains) and there is also the largest Italian river Fall. Piemonte, however, is not only an Italian region, but in the 19th century it was mainly French, and till these days you can recognize it in local dialect. The most important city and at the same time an important link between France and Milan is the city of Turin, which suburbs were built by Fiat’s owner, and in the center of which we can admire, besides pleasant cafes and shops, also several important sights, including the Turin screen. This region is a perfect solution mainly for mountain and winter sports enthusiasts, there are several large ski resorts, including the famous Sestriere. The local specialty is a highly prized white truffle, but popular are also dishes more typical for France, such as fondue (fondita) or the abundant use of butter and cream in the preparation of dishes. Lovers of wine will surely delight the local wide selection of fine wines, such as Asti – sparkling wine or Martini and Cinzano vermutes, which are produced around Turin.
